Though we cannot do without them, feet are probably the most neglected areas of our body. They do not receive as much care and attention as do our face, hair and hands. Our feet endure a lot of wear and tear in the course of the day. So it is our duty to protect them, pamper them and guard them from infections. Strong, clean and well-looked after feet invite admiring glances from everyone.
Here are a few suggestions for foot care:
* Always try to keep your feet clean and dry. Wash your feet as soon as you come from outside or if you have just finished gardening. Pay special attention while drying your feet. Always ensure that you dry your feet well, especially between the toes.
* Pamper your feet with the luxury of foot bath when they ache. Foot bath not only relieves pain, but also banishes bad odor of the feet and prevents cracking. Add 1 tbsp common salt and a few rose petals to warm water kept in a tub, and soak your aching feet in it for 10-15 minutes. During winter use 1 tsp mustard powder instead of salt.
* After washing your feet, use a light moisturizer, (coconut oil of castor oil will also do) either daily, if possible or at least 2 to 3 times a week. You may also use an astringent made out of ½ cup rose water and 1 tbsp of camphor. This keeps the skin on your feet soft and supple.
* Wear comfortable footwear. If a pair of shoes bites, consider discarding them. Also, if you know you are going to walk for a long time or stand for long hours, wear low-heeled, comfortable shoes. Always buy shoes which fit well. Never wear another person’s footwear.
* If you choose to wear closed shoes, liberally apply talcum powder before putting on your shoes. This is especially true in summer, as powder will keep your feet dry. In summer it is best to wear open shoes or strappy sandals instead of closed ones.
* If your feet look rough and tanned, mix besan (gram flour), lime juice, milk-cream and pinch of turmeric. Or you may use 2 tbsp yoghurt and 1 tsp of vinegar, all over your feet. Cool by placing the mixture in your refrigerator. Apply and leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash off using hot water and a sponge. Repeat once a week for soft beautiful feet.
* Rub your feet with pumice stone to get rid of rough spots. Don’t rub your feet vigorously if you have corns. Raw mashed tomato or baked onion pulp applied on corn softens them and also reduces the pain. Corns can also be easily removed with a medicated plaster.
* Massage your feet for 10 to 15 minutes once a fortnight with warm coconut oil or castor oil. Leave oil on for another 10 minutes. Wash off with warm water. This will help stimulate blood circulation to your feet.
* Fond of wearing high-heeled shoes? It is a well-known fact that very high heels can lead to some serious problems, like nerve inflammation or even deformed feet. It is best to avoid high heeled shoes when buying a pair for daily use.
* Regular pedicures enhance the appearance of your feet and give them a neat and well-maintained look. Pedicures should be done at least once a month, professionally or at home, if you know the correct procedure.

feet muy important. wear comfortable shoes with support, I like clarks, also chnge shoes back and forth to slow bacterial multiplication. Any lesions apply anti fungal immediately cuz yeast can become very serious. Some like powder to keep feet dry if that is a problem.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post.
ReplyDeletego to get your shoes fitted properly. Asics do shoe/trainer fitting as do runners need. True, they only sell trainers but its a start, they may even tell you stuff that you can use for other shoe searching.
ReplyDeleteIf your shoes are ill-fitting, they will rub, if they fit properly they do not rub. You may have a smaller heel or wider ball of your foot, anything could be the cause. And just like clothes, each make of shoes will fit differently to the next brand. For example, I cannot wear clothes from kookai or topshop because they don't fit me, I am too tall and my shoulder are too wide and my thighs are too athletic. I can however wear stuff from stella mccartney at addidas, dorothy perkins, ted baker... because they have better fittings, the same thing goes with shoes. Look for the brands that suit your feet.
You can also get plasters that work really well for blisters by scoll. There are other brands too but I don't know the names! boots sell them. They are not the same as other plasters, they really work for blisters, both preventing and curing.
Also, try to choose shoes with natural fabrics and fibers: leather, cotten/canvas, suede... if you choose these types of fabric and fibers, they will change their shape over time to mould to your feet, and will become much more com portable. Any blisers or rubbing you do get will only be minimal and will fade over a short amount of time as the material/leather alters its shape. This just does not happen with man made fabrics/fibers.
Right after you get out of the shower towel dry your feet and apply a lot of lotion or skin oil. Then immediately put on a pair of cotton socks. Keep them on all night. This helps hold in heat and helps the lotion/oil penetrate the skin better. Do this for about 4 nights in a row and whenever you need to in the future. You will see results after the first night. Hope this helps you out and you get some relief! Be sure whatever lotion you buy contains no alcohol though.
ReplyDeleteApply Petroleum Jelly and put on socks before you go to sleep.
ReplyDeleteThere are ways of keeping your feet nice, soft and pretty, without having to spend so much on foot spas and salon pedicures. It is only a matter of good grooming, of keeping your feet clean and moisturized on a day-to-day basis.
ReplyDeleteWhen you take a shower, rub the hardened skin of your soles, as well as the calluses of your feet, with a pumice stone. Yes, you read that right, a pumice stone. Pumice stones are more effective at exfoliating skin than those fancy foot scrubs available at the market. Just remember to wait till your feet are softened by the water before you stone it.
Keep your toenails well-groomed. This means clipping your toenails regularly, never letting them grow too long, removing the cuticles and painting them. Nothing is more unsightly than toenails that are long, have chipped paint and are dirty-looking. If you cannot give yourself a pedicure, make it a point to visit a nail salon every two weeks or so.
ReplyDeleteHaving healthy feet begins with having clean feet. Wash your feet daily with soap and warm water. If necessary, remove dry or tough skin with a pumice stone or skin file. After washing and thoroughly drying (especially between the toes) your feet, apply moisturizing cream to help them to stay soft and supple
ReplyDeleteThis is a very important area to maintain, as good foot care would mean a good style of walking. And walking and exercise are necessary to maintain a good figure. Shoes are one area where hand-me-downs should be avoided, as you need a good fit. If the shoe is too tight, or pinches her little feet, she might get into the habit of walking in an odd manner. Comfort is of the utmost importance and you should go in for straps or lace ups for young children.
ReplyDeleteLike our hands, feet only get a really good rest at night and are prone to dryness all year round. To keep them soft and smooth rub gently with a pumice stone before bed, or use a foot scrub – there are lots on the market now and many contain pumice. Once your feet are scrubbed up and thoroughly dried, apply a rich foot cream
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like one really pampering routine! I am plagued with rough feet even though I exfoliate and moisturize.
ReplyDeleteSmelly feet is due to excessive sweating and wearing shoes for prolonged periods. This can be prevented by washing the feet well and drying them before wearing shoes. The socks must be washed and changed daily. The same pair of shoes must not be worn daily. Using anti-fungal powders helps.
ReplyDeleteTo keep your feet smelling good and looking fresh dust some deodorizing talcum powder onto your feet every morning
ReplyDeletegreat tips, thanks!
ReplyDeleteSmelly feet come from a toxic bowel environment. Clean up the insides to get rid of smell. Eat lots of greens, probiotics, do a colonic, etc. It works!
ReplyDeleteWent to a spa and had a pedicure- it was wonderful
ReplyDeleteDo not expose your feet to cold temperatures.
ReplyDeleteFoot Care Tips:
ReplyDeleteWash your feet daily.
Before going to bed, wash your feet, dry them with a towel and apply moisturizer.
Wear comfortable shoes that fit well to prevent many foot ailments.
Do not expose your feet to cold temperatures.
Trim nails straight across, and not too short. Don't cut out or dig at corners.
If you take 1 cup Lemon Juice, Cinnamon (for smell), 2 tablespoons
ReplyDelete(or less) olive oil, 1/4 cup of milk, and water you can make a wash that leaves skin refreshed and fragrant (the amount of water does not matter).
If you do not like the cinnamon smell you can replace it with another spice, perfume, or flower petals such as roses.
After you make it, you can put it in a tub were you can soak your feet or body.
Next dry your feet or rinse them with water and a MILD soap.
After a few weeks of doing this your skin will be silky smooth.
Feet need to look good in summer! They are more visible now than at any other time of the year. Scrub your feet with foot scrubs or make your own with some granular salt or sugar and olive oil. Rubbing this into your legs in a gentle upward motion will have dual effects of exfoliating dry skin and oil massaging your legs as well.
