Eye yoga

A lot of eye problems in later life are due to a loss of tone in the eye muscles. These muscles become rigid and the loss of elasticity reduces the ability of the lens of the eye to focus at different distances.

Take your posture:

While doing eye exercises, check on your posture. Is your spine erect? Hands on the knees? Body relaxed? Head straight?

That is how you should always remain while doing eye exercises. The whole body must be motionless; nothing must move except the eyes.

Raise your eyes and find a small point that you can see clearly without straining, without frowning, without becoming tense and, of course, without moving your head.

While doing this exercise look at this point each time you raise your eyes.

Next, lower your eyes to find a small point on the floor which you can see clearly when glancing down. Look at it each time you lower your eyes.

Exercise 1

Move your eyes upwards as far as you can, and then downwards as far as you can. Repeat 4 more times. Blink quickly a few times to relax the eye muscles.

Exercise 2

Now do the same using points to your right and to your left, at eye level. Keep your raised fingers or two pencils on each side as guides and adjust them so that you can see them clearly when moving the eyes to the right and to the left, but without straining.

Keeping the finger at eye level, and moving only the eyes, look to the right at your chosen point, then to the left. Repeat four times. Blink several times, and then close your eyes and rest.

Exercise 3

Choose a point you can see from the right corner of your eyes when you lower them, half closing the lids. Look at your chosen point in the right corner up, then to the one in left corner down. Repeat 4 times. Blink several times. Close the eyes and rest. Now do the same exercise in reverse.

Exercise 4

This exercise is called ‘palming’ and is very relaxing to the eyes. It is also most important for preserving the eyesight. Palming also has a beneficial, relaxing effect on your nervous system.

Remain seated on the floor. Draw up your knees, keeping your feet on the floor and slightly apart. Now briskly rub your palms to charge them with electricity and place the cupped palms over your closed eyes.

The fingers of the right hand should be crossed over the fingers of the left hand on the forehead. The elbows should rest on your raised knees and the neck should be kept straight. Don’t bend your head. Do the deep breathing while palming your eyes.

Benefits:

These exercises help to do away with eye strain and tension. Your vision will get better and clearer as the ophthalmic, or eye nerves receive a richer supply of blood.

Focus on things that are far away, look at things up close (not too long).Just try to look more with your eyes during the day. Exercise them! Stretch them! They will get better just like muscles get stronger. But you have to keep at it.

Remember to blink frequently while carrying out the exercises and particularly at the end of each routine as this helps to relax the eye muscles.

Some say that vigorously rubbing the palms together for a short time immediately before starting to palm can add to the benefits, something to do with charging the palms with static electricity but we doubt that the original yoga practitioners five thousand years ago knew why or how this would work

To completely relax the eyes and the surrounding muscles, close your eyes and think of something that is pleasant or soothing and at a distance. Now gently open your eyes and look into the distance. Next focus on an object at arm's length. Do this extremely relaxing exercise four or five times a day.
If your eye twitches, or your eyes are red and feeling itchy, massage your scalp with curd.

there are no exercises that can improve your vision - there is no weakness in any muscle that is causing your problems so whatever you do makes no difference.

The most effective method in your effort of improving your eyesight in a natural manner is to practice certain eye exercises regularly. You should also understand the causes that had led to the defect in your vision, the processing of correcting that defect, and the technique of focusing and relaxing your eye. You should also know how the eye should be protected from further damage and reversing the existing defects in a natural fashion. The main advantage of eye exercises is that it does not involve any cost, only a portion of your time regularly on a daily basis.

Well for the most part, your eyesight is mostly based on genetics. Environmental aspects actually have very little effect on your eyes, unless they are very extreme.
As for for improving your eyesight, there's nothing for that that you can do short of eye surgery. Vitamin A doesn't actually improve your eyesight. It only helps your night vision.

one good way of helping improve your vision is to do eye strengthening and relaxation exercising. One of the most popular exercises in Palming. Palming requires you to sit comfortably and cover your eyes with your hands, make sure you rub your hands together to create some warmth before covering your eyes.

All you uncertified negative-Neds please stop saturating this page with your Main-stream, uninformed, industry propagated opinions. I you weren't interested in increasing your eyesight naturally why the heck are you here casting doubt on a road of method you haven't traveled for yourselves. If I didn't know better I'd say all of you worked at prescription glasses shops, and you hope these exercises don't work for the safety of income.

Unfortunately, they are right... as much as I wish I could say otherwise, glasses, contacts, or surgery are the only way to improve your eyesight.
I've been looking for other options for almost 20 years since I first had to get glasses and I have found things that improve the health of your eyes (which can help them from getting worse), but they can't make the actual visual acuity better. Most of them are natural herbs (like Lutein, Bilberry, and Eyebright) and vitamins (A and E among others) that help maintain the health of the eye, but unfortunately couldn't improve vision.
The main reason is because vision problems are a physical problem (the physical distance between the retina and lens), not a chemical problem that can be changed with drugs, herbs, or supplements :-(

I am an Optometrist and many people think that contacts can improve your eyesight but sadly your eyes can only get worse but glasses and contacts make your eyes be preserved longer

After Finishing off any eye exercise rub ur hands and keep it on your eyes you will feel very relaxed. Then you can wash your eyes with water by taking a bowl fill with water and then put your eyes inside it and rotate your eyes inside water without closing your eyes. By this way you clean your eyes after exercise.
