Dark underarms-causes

Do you shy away from wearing sleeveless outfits because of darkened armpits? You might have been maintaining scrupulous hygiene, removing superfluous hair from the underarms, bleaching the underarm skin, and trying out a host of herbal/home remedies to get rid of this hateful skin discoloration….however, nothing seems to be working for you. What could be the reasons for this?

dark underarms of a woman
There’s an informative post at Beauty Brains which lists the top five causes of this embarrassing problem and what you could possibly do about it. Two of the reasons could be due to:

Buildup of dead skin cells.

According to at least one dermatologist, dark spots under your arms are the result of dead skin cells that are trapped in microscopic “hills and valleys” on your skin.
What To Do About It: Exfoliate, preferably with a product containing lactic acid.

Antiperspirant and deodorant usage.

In theory, some ingredients in these products (perhaps the fragrance) could be reacting with the skin to cause discoloration. Practically speaking this seems unlikely but many people do claim that when they stop using APDs, the darkness goes away.
What To Do About It: Try switching brands or using a deodorant instead of an antiperspirant. You may stink a bit more, but hey, the Left Brain lives for experiments like that!

Use lemon juice. Lemons are an age-old folk remedy for bleaching the skin. Apply lemon juice to the armpits with a cotton ball. You can also put the lemon juice in a small spray bottle. Use the lemon juice a few times a day for faster bleaching.

Use hydrogen peroxide. Its bleaching ability is well known for both industrial and cosmetic usage. The hydrogen peroxide bottles sold in drugstores have a 3 percent to 3.5 percent solution that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use on the skin. Apply the hydrogen peroxide to the underarms once or twice a day until results are seen.

Use lactic acid. Lactic acid is another popular ingredient used in many skin care preparations. It is one of the alpha hydroxy acids that is used to cleanse and treat the skin. Lactic acid is found in cheese, yogurt, buttermilk and other dairy products. Small bottles of lactic acid can also be purchased from beauty supply shops or online. You have a few options on how to use lactic acid. You can purchases the acid or use milk or buttermilk. Using the lactic acid itself will give you a stronger bleaching action, but you also run the risk of irritating the skin if you use too much. Applying the milk or buttermilk with a cotton ball is a safer home remedy.

First of all, Don't shave your underarms. Get them waxed instead. Shaving your underarms give you pigmentation there, making that part dark. If you wax them, You won't get pigmentation anymore. You can use home remedies to lighten your underarms. Like using lemon juice. However, if you are going to use lemon juice, it may irritate your skin if you have sensitive skin. Apply lemon juice to your underarms for at least twenty minutes.
