Help!! The skin above my upper lip is dark!!

Reader's Query

Ashita asks: The area above my lips and below my nose is noticeably darker.  And even though I do not have superfluous hair above my upper lip, it appears as though I have a  moustache / mustache. This is disturbing me immensely. I'm a 19 year old girl. Can you suggest a suitable home-remedy for my problem?

Smita replies:
Ashita, this particular home-remedy that I am recommending to you had helped me lighten an unsightly discoloration on my forehead. I'm sure this will work on the skin above your upper lip too. Do this an hour before you go to bed, regularly or on alternate days.

Take ½ tsp of lemon juice, ½ tsp of honey and ½ tsp of milk powder and mix well. Apply this paste on the darkened area and let it remain there for ½ an hour. Then with a wash cloth soaked in lukewarm water, wipe off the paste from there.

Since the skin above the lips is pretty thin & sensitive, you might experience a bit of dryness or an itchy sensation.  For this, apply honey over it but do remember to wash it off before you go to sleep or else you will have ants crawling all over you.

One more thing... you will also have to apply the below mentioned face pack twice a week for better results.

To prepare this pack, you have to soak 1 tsp of methi (fenugreek) seeds powder in  ½ -- ¾ cup of sour buttermilk and leave it overnight. In the morning, you will get a rather thick paste. After washing your face with a mild face wash (homemade or otherwise), gently massage your face and neck with this methi paste.

When you are done, apply the remaining paste all over your face, excluding the undereye area and let it stay for 20-25 minutes. Then wipe it off with a wet washcloth and splash cold water on your face.

In addition to all this, drink lots of water; 6-8 glasses at least and have more of green veggies and Vitamin- C rich fruits. I hope this helps.

In the meantime, use a good concealer to camouflage that darkened area as home-remedies do take some time to work.

As for concealer recommendations, search for it on the web and make your choice. You might have to try 2-3 concealers before you get the right one to successfully mask your flaw.

  1. Lightening products would be a great place to start. One good one to try would be Skinceuticals Phyto+. Also, be sure that you are using sunscreen daily so as not to further increase the pigmentation.

before u waste money on lightening products; try a great micro dermabrasion face mask first. this will remove some dead skin and poss even it out too.I am not sure if skin lightening cream would work like that (to my understanding its just for skin pigmentation not something that's most likely temporary) but a great one is in the 'skin doctors' range or 'dr lewins'

  3. Extract some pomegranate juice by grinding the seeds. Add a few drops of beet juice to it and apply it on the upper lip area. Wait for it to dry and then rinse off with lukewarm water.

Mix together a tablespoon of oatmeal, a teaspoon each of lime juice, curd, honey and one egg white. Whisk the ingredients together and apply the mixture on the entire face. This will help remove the tan and will lighten the upper lip skin natural

Prepare a natural skin lightener by mixing together some chickpeas flour, turmeric, honey and milk cream. Whisk the ingredients into a fine paste and apply this to the upper lip area.

Lemon juice can bleach your skin lighter. Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice with one teaspoon baby oil and apply it to your face at night. Leave on overnight and wash off in the morning.

I have tried many skin lightening creams. Dermalmd Skin Lighter serum one seems to work the best. I have darker skin above my lip. Looks like a moustache. Not good, unless that becomes attractive on females! It takes awhile to see improvements.

Highly Effective Indian Home remedies For Delayed Periods

Delayed periods or Irregular menstrual periods have become very common these days for a lot of women in their reproductive age and they suffer great agonies when their period does not come on time. A delay of 4-5 days may be fine but if it exceeds 8 days, then it's certainly a cause for concern. In this post, I'll be sharing highly effective Indian home remedies for your delayed periods . I'd been a long sufferer of irregular periods during my teenage to early twenties. I've tried most of the recipes here, along with Kapalabhati pranayama, yoga poses, mudras and other lifestyle habits. Now my periods are extremely regular like clockwork; not a day less or more than 28. When I look back, I'm surprised how I managed those years of anxiety and fear about my late periods.

The ache of acne (pimples)

Acne is often the bane of a pretty face. It is painful more emotionally than physically, for the scar that it leaves behind can last for a lifetime, adding to one’s miserable look & feeling. No doubt many expensive skin care clinics have mushroomed in ever nook & corner, offering to clear all the scars & blemishes on the face, but they are very expensive & charge exorbitant price for each sitting; not everyone can afford them. So why not try out this simple skin care regimen to minimize the damage caused by acne & as far as possible prevent its eruption.

Aspirin for acne-prone skin

Aspirin has been around for a long time and its health benefits are wide and varied. Aspirin , or acetylsalicylic acid is a salicylate drug, often used as an analgesic to relieve minor aches and pains , as an antipyretic to reduce fever , and as an anti-inflammatory medication. Aspirin's greatest benefit is reducing cardiovascular events including heart attacks and strokes. According to the American Heart Assoc. virtually all women are at risk of heart disease and doctors should more strongly consider prescribing a daily aspirin for their female patients. There is growing evidence to suggest regular aspirin use may reduce cancer and dementia as well. Investigators from the Women's Health Study have reported important new findings demonstrating that aspirin reduces the risk of a first stroke in women. When given to someone immediately after a heart attack, aspirin decreases death by 25%.
