Wedding Makeup Trends for 2012

While the biggest celebrity weddings of 2011 featured brides with strong, sexy, smoky eyes, soft, nude lips, and minimal blush or shimmer (see Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian for reference), 2012 is shaping up to be a bit different when it comes to trends for bridal makeup.  Of course, most brides choose to avoid flash-in-the-pan fashions that will make their wedding photos look dated over time, opting instead for a natural look that plays up their features and inherent coloring.  But if you like to be on the cutting edge when it comes to style and you’re keen to show the girls in your bridal party how it’s done, here are just a few upcoming trends that you may want to try out for you wedding this year.

Wedding-Makeup

The most prominent trend you can expect to see these days is a heavy brow.  While most of us have spent the last decade plucking our eyebrows into oblivion, those that have followed the example set by Joan Crawford will find themselves very much in the now for bridal fashion.  You should still keep your fuzzy caterpillars immaculately groomed and well arched, but a pencil-thin line above your eyes simply won’t cut it anymore.  For girls that have trouble growing their brows back thanks to years of tweezing and waxing, there’s no need to despair.  There are products on the market that can help generate the growth you’re looking for in time for your wedding, and you can always use a brow-correcting powder or pencil to thicken your natural line.

Next on the agenda is a colorful smoky eye.  Rather than depending on the muddy colors of yesteryear (browns, grays, and blacks), this year will see the addition of various shades of purples, pinks, blues, and greens to really make your peepers pop.  In fact, bold colors are set to enjoy a comeback the likes of which haven’t been seen since the ‘80s.  Although the bold neon hues featured on runways of late should be reserved for the haute couture crowd, girls that want to spice up their wedding makeup shouldn’t be afraid to apply a splash of color to their lids or lips (although you should stick to one or the other since highlighting both can come off as clownish).  And when it comes to lip shades, you can pair a pretty pink (rather than nude) with your smoky-eyed look, or a bold, retro red (sample several shades beforehand to find the one that is just right) with a nude eyelid and thin, black liner.

You may worry about how to rekindle a marriage using every trick in your beauty book somewhere down the line (although if you think about it early on, rekindling the romance you feel on your wedding day may never become an issue).  But when it comes to the big day when you say “I do”, the most important thing is that you look like the vibrant, stylish woman that you are.  And striking a balance between classic and modern makeup trends can only add to your polished, sophisticated, and ultimately timeless wedding look.
