Facts on Low Testosterone in Women

Recent studies show that the notion “estrogen is for women while testosterone is for men” no longer holds true. In fact, women also produce testosterone, a steroid hormone, in their ovaries that is essential in their overall physical and psychological health. It also contributes in the growth and maintenance of reproductive tissues and bone mass and plays a significant factor of female sexual activity and responsible for increase in sex drive. However, there are instances when testosterone levels in a woman decreases. Here are few things you need to know when testosterone levels among women are below normal.

Causes
Most women’s testosterone levels drop during menopause, which is a sign of the natural aging process among women. However, age is not primarily the main culprit. The existence of medical conditions such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, damage to pituitary glands or ovarian cancer can also contribute to this condition. Also, when a woman had her ovaries removed or is taking too much oral contraceptives, the hormones will most likely drop.

Physical and Mental Effects
A woman with low testosterone experiences lack of sex drive, vaginal dryness, loss of muscle mass, sudden weight gain, hair loss, increased muscle tension, fatigue or tiredness, hot flushes and irregular periods. There is also a greater chance of developing osteoporosis or any bone-related deterioration and cardiovascular diseases.

On the other hand, depression, anxiety, irritability and mood swings, inability to concentrate and lapses in memory can also be experienced by a woman with low testosterone.

Diagnosing Low Testosterone Levels
A woman does not have to wait for the time she reaches 40 before getting herself checked. In case any of the symptoms starts to manifest or there are sudden changes in her body, it is better to seek medical assistance and have her checked. Various laboratory tests that will check a woman’s hormone levels will be conducted to determine the reasons behind those symptoms. It is important to remember that any of the signs indicated does not necessarily follow that a woman is suffering from low testosterone. That is why there is a need to conduct series of tests since it might signal an even more serious medical condition.

Treatment
Low testosterone levels can be treated and increased through proper diagnosis and medication. Testosterone supplements are the most common way in treating this situation. However, oral supplements may affect the enzyme systems of the body which can cause liver dysfunctions.

Intramuscular injections, testosterone patches and testosterone gel are also few of the available treatments. Testosterone pellets which are inserted under the skin of the hip or abdomen which can last up to 120 days can also be resorted to however can be costly.

Testosterone replacement is another treatment available but will only be conducted after thorough examination. Improper dosage may lead to further complications hence the need to determine and diagnose the exact cause before giving this treatment.

Testosterone is important in a woman’s health and body. As much as possible, there should always be a balance of all the hormones to maintain a normal and healthy body.

By age 40, the testosterone in women is half of what it was at age 20. Menopause does not change testosterone levels. However, removal of the ovaries does cause testosterone levels to drop by as much as 50 per cent.

Highly Effective Indian Home remedies For Delayed Periods

Delayed periods or Irregular menstrual periods have become very common these days for a lot of women in their reproductive age and they suffer great agonies when their period does not come on time. A delay of 4-5 days may be fine but if it exceeds 8 days, then it's certainly a cause for concern. In this post, I'll be sharing highly effective Indian home remedies for your delayed periods . I'd been a long sufferer of irregular periods during my teenage to early twenties. I've tried most of the recipes here, along with Kapalabhati pranayama, yoga poses, mudras and other lifestyle habits. Now my periods are extremely regular like clockwork; not a day less or more than 28. When I look back, I'm surprised how I managed those years of anxiety and fear about my late periods.

Home remedies for sleeplessness

The day dawns beautifully for those who have had a night of good sleep. But the same day drags on for those who have spent a disturbing, sleepless night. Sleep is a biological necessity even as eating and drinking are. Sufficient sleep renders a person normally sociable, lively and high-spirited. It’s a nature’s way of rejuvenating the person for the next day. Realize all this, and make sleep a physiological habit. The consequences of long time sleep deprivation can be very grave. Lack of sleep takes its toll on the skin and hair. It causes acne-breakouts and makes one look aged and haggard beyond years. Experts opine that during sleep as our metabolic rate falls, blood goes to those areas which need the most repairing. This also steps up the production of collagen and keratin, which aid the regeneration of skin cells and help resist premature ageing. So for a younger looking and a problem free skin you need to have a good quality of sleep every night.
