Juices and smoothies are an easy pick-me-up when made with natural ingredients. These days, with a myriad of health food grocery stores offering certified organic and natural products, you don’t even need to own a juicer to whip up recipes to energize your body.
The following top recipes come highly recommended, and sound pretty yummy!
Juice your way to higher energy!
Dr. Oz’s Energizing Green Drink
One of TV’s most popular health advisors, Dr. Oz, has a recipe for an Energizing Green Drink that sounds perfectly delicious. Filled with green fruits and vegetables, it’s as colorful as it is flavorful.
Dr. Oz recommends the concoction “if you’re felling a little sluggish and slow on the uptake” and especially recommends it for women in perimenopause, as it is rich in phytoestrogens.
Makes four (eight-ounce) servings
Ingredients
First combine all the ingredients in a blender. Liquefy until consistency meets your taste. Then enjoy!
Dr. Weil’s Anti-Aging Green Monster Drink
Not to be outdone by Dr. Oz, Dr. Andrew Weil has his own version of the green energizing juice drink.
With the addition of yogurt, it’s more like a smoothie.
Ingredients
Be sure to source quality organic juices if you don’t have your own juicer. If you do have your own juicer, be sure to use organic produce since the fresher the produce, the more juice it will yield.
Combine all the ingredients and blend until smooth; add more or less ice to get the desired consistency and flavor.
An interesting idea for richer flavor is to freeze some of the juices in an ice cube tray and then replace some of the ice with them.
The Perricone (Juice) Prescription
If you’d like to reduce wrinkles while boosting your energy levels, try this juicing recipe from dermatologist Dr. Nicholas Perricone, who in addition to creating a popular diet also has a great skincare line.
He highly recommends watercress, as it’s a powerful antioxidant, which helps prevent wrinkles while reducing inflammation. The addition of cinnamon helps lower blood sugar, which helps fight many diseases as well as decreasing wrinkles.
Ingredients
1 cup watercress
4 celery stalks
1 medium apple
1 1/2 cups of water
A pinch of cinnamon
Directions
Start by washing the celery, apple, and watercress thoroughly. Blend until smooth. Serve immediately.
Dr. Perricone’s juice recipe might also remove wrinkles.
The common denominator in all these recipes is that the ingredients are low-glycemic fruits and vegetables, meaning sugars are released slowly over time into the blood stream. This makes the drinks inherently energizing.
Eating anything with starch, even complex grains, or sugars will tend to make you sluggish. For this reason, a green shake or juice drink is a great way to start off your day!
