Acne scar treatment: How to remove acne scars permanently

It is unfortunate that as humans, our skin doesn’t forget or forgive. Be it acne, hyperpigmentation, or freckles, the wounds of these skin disorders never seem to fade away easily. So then how can you get rid of such scars and blemishes? Is there any effective acne scar treatment available? How can you get a good acne treatment solution that cleanses and erases marks within few weeks? If you happen to see such dreadful and painful scars on the skin, you don’t have to bear with it. Read further to know the best acne scar treatments that will help you get a clear skin.

Types of acne scars
While some scars are permanent, there are those that fade away with time. Scars may be in the form of the following:

Skin discoloration
Healed scars can leave behind discolored skin, which is also called post- inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Such discoloration can be visible for a few months after an acne lesion has healed. Thus, you need to use the best acne solution products to bring back your skin to normal.

Tissue scars
You may have noticed acne scars that have enlarged, raised growth of tissue. These scars may be called keloids or hypertrophic scars. They are formed due to the excess production of collagen in your skin.

Loss of tissue
When acne scars occur due to loss of tissue, they are called as ice-pick scars, soft scars, atrophic macules, depressed fibrotic scars, or Follicular macular atrophy. These appear sunken and look like pits in the skin. It is essential to find the right acne scar treatment to relieve and eliminate such flaws.

Macules
The flat red spots where an acne lesion was once located are called macules. They persist for a week and then fade on their own.

Acne scar removal methods
When you decide to get your marks treated, it is a personal decision. While some get it removed to restore their appearance, others get it done because acne scars affect them emotionally. Consult your dermatologist to find out which acne scar treatment is best suitable for you.

Chemical peels
Chemical peels reduce the appearance of shallow acne scars and hyperpigmentation that occurs around a healed acne lesion. This acne treatment solution may be administered by a doctor, nurse, or spa aesthetician. In this procedure, the chemical is applied to the skin and the outer layer is peeled, giving it an even appearance.

Dermabrasion
This effective scar removal method involves using a high-speed brush or an additional instrument to resurface the texture of your skin pores and reduce the depth of scars. After the procedure is complete, the skin takes several days to heal.

Micro-dermabrasion
As this is a less intensive form of dermabrasion, a dermatologist uses a spray of small crystals rather than a high-speed brush to remove surface skin.

Retinoic acid
It is believed that certain tissue scars like keloid scars should not be treated using the traditional acne scar treatment methods. Instead, retinoic acid creams should be used to reduce its appearance.

Lasers
Sometimes, even the best acne solutions products can’t do what lasers can do to your skin. Various types of laser are used, depending on whether the acne lesion is raised or flat. Laser treatment can be used to shed the outer layer of your skin, lighten the redness around the healed acne lesions or contour areas of acne scars.

Skin grafting
In this method, the doctor uses a small piece of normal skin and fills it in an area of scarred skin. This technique is beneficial when a condition such as dermabrasion leaves a tunnel in your skin.
Any of the above-given acne scar treatment can be opted for to enhance the skin’s appearance. It is advisable to consult your dermatologist to know which treatment will suit you the best.

  1. While I had heavy acne scars some years back, they are now in a much better state thanks to the CTM routine I have been following since long. However, I can still see light marks. I am currently using some medicines prescribed by derma. Hope they will help!

Lemon as a beauty aid

The diminutive lemon is a very versatile beauty-aid and this cheap and golden-coloured fruit has excellent properties for enhancing your looks. Simple lemon-based preparations, you can mix in your own kitchen, will surely bring a dramatic transformation in your beauty regimen.

Aloevera, the wonder herb

Of all the herbs available in the kitchen garden, aloe is perhaps the richest in healing properties and has been rightly named the “first-aid” plant. It has moisturizing and emollient properties and is used in cosmetic creams, sun-lotions, shaving creams and face packs. It can easily be cultivated as a house-plant in a sunny warm spot with good drainage. Cosmetologists mix aloe with several other herbs and draft fancy names for it. Then these “herbal” avatars are sold at exorbitant prices. Growing a plant and using fresh gel is much more effective than bottled gel, simply because it is alive and therefore is more potent. It is the only plant whose extract is applied directly from plant to face in its natural and purest form.

I Tried a Headache Balm and Ended Up with Rashes

I do have this habit of slathering pain balms whenever I have a headache. But never did I get a skin reaction or rashes from it. It so happened that I had an extremely severe headache a few months ago.  The pain was so unbearable that I gingerly reached out for a pain balm kept on my bedside table and kept on slathering it repeatedly all over the temples of my forehead. Next morning, after I woke up, I found that the skin on my forehead was peeling off and worse there were red rashes!  This was the first time in my life that I was getting rashes from applying a pain balm on my forehead !  I have never had any pain balm allergy or as such!  Side-effects due to application of a pain balm  was something I've never come across all these years! I usually use pain balms of reputed companies – my usual favourites are Tiger balm, Amrutanjan, Zandu balm and Sloan’s balm.  This time I had used Tiger balm. But why did it  give me rashes now, when I had used it...
