8 Reasons To Buy Handmade Jewelry

[Sponsored Post]
In this fast-paced, technologically driven world, it’s really difficult to get people to like handmade products. But handmade accessories, be it jewelry or other handicrafts are always superior to machine-made goods.

An artisan takes significant amount of time to create a beautiful masterpiece and does it with utmost precision, skill and ingenuity whereas machines mechanically churn out thousands and thousands of similar, monotonous, droll looking pieces per day.

1. In case of handmade jewelry, there is always some interesting story or sentiment attached to it whereas for machine-made jewelry, it is purely manufactured with an intent for commercial gain. Machine production is driven by quantity whereas handmade one stands for quality.

2. Buying handmade jewelry encourages and supports local artisans and craftsmen who spend a lot of their time and energy in creating unique pieces of art. Furthermore, buying their ware keeps them from going out of business. It’s really tough for them to compete with big corporate giants and multi-national companies but a little support from our side will be of great help to them.

3. Agreed that handmade jewelry is a little more expensive than machine made ones, but in case of handmade jewelry you are paying for the craftsmanship only and the hard work put behind it, while in case of machine made jewelry you are paying for a lot of other expenses as well –- the company’s rent, the brand’s profit, the machinery, the employees working there and so on.

4. Machine-made jewelry pieces look too perfect and the designs are repetitive as well. On the other hand, handmade jewelry has that raw quality about it and no two pieces are exactly the same. Though some pieces may be similar, there is always some deviation.

5. Wearing handmade pieces makes you remember that warm, familiar feeling when someone close to you prepared something especially for you with his / her own hands with much love and care. It’s almost akin to wearing a sweater lovingly knit by your mother or eating that special cake dotingly prepared by your grandmother. Handmade jewelry evokes those wonderful emotions.

6. Handmade jewelry is just the perfect gift to your loved ones. Available in a variety of bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces, brooches and more, a meaningful piece of handmade jewelry is just the thing for your near and dear ones. Gift it to your mother on Mother’s day or to your girlfriend on her birthday / Valentine’s day and watch the happiness they exude when they get to know that you have purchased some unique, custom-made piece just for them.

7. Unlike mass-produced, machine-made jewelry, handmade accessories are more sustainable. They consume less energy to produce than machine-made ones and as such are environment friendly too. Most of the handmade products use raw materials produced locally rather than imported ones.

8. I’m not just in favor of handmade jewelry. Any handmade product is worth buying! Handmade accessories preserve local arts and crafts and are passed from generation to generation. Each locally made handicraft tells a tale of its people, history, land and its cultural traditions.

Lemon as a beauty aid

The diminutive lemon is a very versatile beauty-aid and this cheap and golden-coloured fruit has excellent properties for enhancing your looks. Simple lemon-based preparations, you can mix in your own kitchen, will surely bring a dramatic transformation in your beauty regimen.

Aloevera, the wonder herb

Of all the herbs available in the kitchen garden, aloe is perhaps the richest in healing properties and has been rightly named the “first-aid” plant. It has moisturizing and emollient properties and is used in cosmetic creams, sun-lotions, shaving creams and face packs. It can easily be cultivated as a house-plant in a sunny warm spot with good drainage. Cosmetologists mix aloe with several other herbs and draft fancy names for it. Then these “herbal” avatars are sold at exorbitant prices. Growing a plant and using fresh gel is much more effective than bottled gel, simply because it is alive and therefore is more potent. It is the only plant whose extract is applied directly from plant to face in its natural and purest form.

I Tried a Headache Balm and Ended Up with Rashes

I do have this habit of slathering pain balms whenever I have a headache. But never did I get a skin reaction or rashes from it. It so happened that I had an extremely severe headache a few months ago.  The pain was so unbearable that I gingerly reached out for a pain balm kept on my bedside table and kept on slathering it repeatedly all over the temples of my forehead. Next morning, after I woke up, I found that the skin on my forehead was peeling off and worse there were red rashes!  This was the first time in my life that I was getting rashes from applying a pain balm on my forehead !  I have never had any pain balm allergy or as such!  Side-effects due to application of a pain balm  was something I've never come across all these years! I usually use pain balms of reputed companies – my usual favourites are Tiger balm, Amrutanjan, Zandu balm and Sloan’s balm.  This time I had used Tiger balm. But why did it  give me rashes now, when I had used it...
